Waves Keep Rollin’

The Waves continued their 4 game winning streak with a 28-21 win over Watertown.

It was a very exciting game from the first snap to the last snap. Watertown jumped out on the Waves early. They were running and passing the ball at will against the Midway defense and Midway’s offense couldn’t put together any long drives. However, the Waves began to pull it together in the 2nd quarter and the momentum began to swing.

The offensive line started pushing forward and #3 Blake Bray, who came into the game averaging more than 5 yards per carry, started hammering away picking up 6, 7, 8 yard runs with ease. Bray came away with 165 total yards and one TD. Bray has become a running force and improves each week. And this kid’s only a sophomore! Quarterback Jude O’Toole, #13, had another good game running outside with “keepers” to pick up some big yardage and he also recorded one TD and a 2-point conversion as well as one passing TD.

Midway’s defense came alive after a slow start. Senior LB, Caleb Clark, had a big defensive game recording 9 tackles and dropped their QB twice for sacks. He seemed to be around the ball on every play and was a key defensive player in turning the game around. Defensive Lineman, “Big John” Russell had a big defensive play as he picked off a pass and went “rumbling, stumbling” down the sideline before being ridden down.

“Swivel Hips” Myers also had a huge game. Spencer came into the game tied for 1st among Knox area schools with 3 interceptions and he added another interception Friday night in addition to forcing 2 fumbles. Myers also had a solid hit on a Watertown defensive back which made the fence walkers go wild. Of course you know what happened next
