Keevin moved up from Georgia to the Midway area while we were in high school. He was usually the first man off the bench on our best state tournament team, the 77-78 team. In one game we were playing highly regarded Sequatchie County and their all state center, Jim Hicks. There were only a few seconds left in the regional championship, and we had a 1 point lead. After a scrap under the basket, a jump ball was called and the all state center was to jump our 5′ 8″ 145 pound sixth man … Keevin Woody.
Later, people told us that we looked relaxed even though all this 6’6″ leaper had to do was tap it to another big guy who would have a routine turn around jump shot to put them ahead. We were relaxed about the situation, because we knew that Keevin would cheat like the devil to steal that tip. He did.
Keevin had this move where he would basically jump into the guy and slip his arm underneath his and pull him down while propelling himself up. Keevin easily won the tap, and slapped the ball like he was making a volleyball spike to a streaking San Narramore who scored on a layup as the game ended. The Mighty Wave continued its march to a State Championship in 1978.
