Interview with Woody Townsend

Jeremy Woody:
SORSN: You’ve been stepping up big since Christmas break. What’s different? Changed your diet? Found some lucky socks? Switched from tighty-whities to boxers? What’s been the difference in how you’re playing now as apposed to the start of the season?

Jeremy: Well Spencer was suspended the 3 tournament games so I put it upon my shoulders to lead the team as best as I could, and as well as that my teammates are looking for me. And I am getting open more often.

SORSN: Other than a few losses to some very good teams, the Waves have played very well thus far. Who are some of the big upcoming games with for you and your teammates? Is their one team on the remaining schedule that is a must win?

Jeremy: Well, we have CAK Friday, we still have Rockwood, Cosby, and on senior night we have Harriman. Every team we know we are better than is a must win.

SORSN: Scenerio: A lose ball is going out-of-bounds near half-court on the home stands side right towards your grandfather, Boyd Woody (aka Papa Woody). Do you (A) pull up and just let the ball go out-of-bounds, (B) attempt to save the ball while side-stepping so you do not hit Mr. Woody because after all, he is your grandfather, or (C) forget about the ball and do a Goldberg “Spear” on Mr. Woody for all the heckling he gives you on the sidelines?

Jeremy: C… No I would probably have to do B because if I didn’t then I would get yelled at by him worse than if I threw the ball away.

Derek Townsend:
SORSN: The offense seems to be improving. We’re seeing 4 guys with double-digit scoring, post players are playing better, and over-all team play is good. A senior now, what area has improved in your own game since you started playing in your sophomore year?

Derek: My defense and ball handling.

SORSN: You wear #4; is there a reason for this particular number or was this just the number that was given to you?

Derek: It was the number given to me, but when I first got it I really hated it. But I think I have grown into it.

(There is some MHS history with the #4. #4 was worn by Craig Moser in both basketball and football in the late ’80s.)

SORSN: Has there been any good locker room pranks? Tell us about your all-time favorite prank that you either witnessed or was apart of.

Derek: None that can be discussed in public.
But there is one…my sophomore year at camp, Jesse Weigle got into this huge box in the Hallway then Spencer runs down the hall and jumps and dropkicks the box. It was great.
