Post Game Interview with Matt Crabtree

SORSN: OK Matt. Tell us about the fight. What started it? Your teammates and classmates seemed shocked to see the fierce fighter in you; do you consider yourself to be more of a lover than a fighter? How did you and the other player involved avoid being ejected? Was there not any punches thrown? Can we look for you on the next UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship)? Perhaps going toe-to-toe with the “Iceman” Chuck Liddell?

Matt: Alright to start off with I’m probably neither a lover nor fighter. The fight started because I had got off my man and was walking to the sideline when I got jumped from behind. After that it was 3 on 1. I started trying to stick up for myself. I really don’t know why we didn’t get ejected; you would have to ask Coach Moser. Hopefully no more fighting, including no UFC fights.

SORSN: You had your hands full Thursday night at Defensive End. Rockwood called more than 40 passing plays and their QB liked to scramble outside of the pocket. Was that game the most challenging game that you yourself have played in? Rockwood’s field goal attempt at the end of the game..it appeared you got close to the ball…did you or someone else tip the ball or was the kick just that bad?

Matt: Yes it was the most difficult game I have ever been in. Especially in the 2nd half they started rolling out away from me. And yes Big Blake blocked the field goal to finish the game.

SORSN: The Midway coaching staff gets pretty animated on the sidelines. Do you ever look over at them and wonder “What the crap are they doing over there, waving their arms about? Are they dancing? Why are Coach Moser and Coach Houston hugging? Why is Coach O’Toole wearing a visor when he is bald and its dark outside anyways?”

Matt: They are a pretty crazy bunch. Most of the time they are trying to get our attention. Most of the time we are doing it back trying to get our signals straight. The coaches are just looking for a little love, big win. Did you see Coach Shillings and Moser after the Greenback game Last year? About Coach O’Toole none of us really know.

SORSN: Going into the season, there was a lot of speculation that the team just wasn’t ready, just wasn’t playing at the desired level, the team didn’t have the needed heart and guts, and to expect an average season at best. With the big win over Rockwood, do you see the attitude changing among the players? Did the win give the needed confidence to make a run at another Region Title?

Matt: Well we really weren’t and we are still not completely ready. Our confidence has gone up, but we can’t let that make us lazy. We have a whole lot to get worked out before Oakdale and the rest of the region schedule gets under way.
