For those who turned off the TV of the UT vs LSU game at half time; you missed one heck of a game. For those who left at half time of the Midway vs Oneida game; you missed one heck of a game.
Oneida completely dominated every aspect of the game the first half and scored 3 touchdowns. They would however, fail to complete a PAT or 2-point conversions and would go into the half with a commanding 18-0 lead.
We’re not exactly sure what was said at half time in the locker room but what ever it was, it worked. The boys from the south (t-shirt plug) came out with a little fire under their tails. It was the freshman, Ray “Ray-Ray” Robinson who provided the spark for the Waves. Robinson took the handoff from Woody and turned it up field, racing 80 yards for the touch down. On Midway’s next possession, Midway would again drive the ball behind the running of Ray-Ray. On 4th down, the Waves would send in Mr. T, Tanner “Golden Toe” Roberson, for a field goal. Tanner would split the uprights and pull the Waves closer, 18-10. Midway wasn’t done yet. The Midway defense, which was being embarrassed in the 1st half, would control the Oneida offense in the 2nd half, giving our offense opportunities to put up some points. The Waves would march the field again and Woody would score on a keeper from 1-yard out, bringing the score to 18-16. The Oneida D stopped the 2-point conversion, keeping the Indians in the lead.
The Midway D stepped up again, forcing Oneida to again punt the ball. The Waves yet again marched down the field, controlling the clock. The Waves had the ball down inside the 10 but a penalty would force them back. Coach Moser let the play clock and the game clock run down as far as possible before calling his final timeout with only 7 seconds left in the game. 4th and goal from about the 12, down by 2, 7 seconds to go……in comes Tanner “Golden Toe” Roberson for the win. Oneida would then call a timeout to try and ice Golden Toe. The snap is good, hold is down (laces out), the kick……is……gooooooooooooood! Waves Win! 19-18.
