Christmas Tournament Results

The Midway Classic was held from 12/28 to 12/31 in which the Lady Waves went 0-2 and the Greenwaves went 2-1.

1st Round

In the 1st round of the Midway Classic, the girls lost to Bledsoe County 50-57. The Lady Waves made a 2nd half charge as they out scored Bledsoe by 10 but it wasn’t enough as the Warriors held on to the 7 point win.

The boys jumped out to an early lead, 30-9 at the half, and never let up as they cruised to a 55-31 victory over Monterey. Kent Settlemyer led the Greenwaves with 14 points on an impressive 7 of 8 shooting from the field.

2nd Round

The girls lost in the 2nd round to Grace Christian Academy 40-49. Down 17-14 at the half, the Lady Waves were never able to take the lead and would suffer their 2nd loss of the tourney.

In the 2nd round, the boys drew a tough opponent in Meigs County and would lose 47-60. The Greenwaves dug themselves into a deep hole in the first half, down 36-17, and could not recover. Settlemyer again led the Greenwaves with 18 points on 7 of 14 shooting.

3rd Round

The Greenwaves literally shot the lights out in the 3rd round held Friday, December 30th. With Jake Campbell on the free-throw line, the gym went dark. A severe thunderstorm moved in, blowing down trees and power lines, causing the gym to go dark and forcing the games to be rescheduled for Saturday.

Due to the storm, several 3rd round games were canceled, including the Lady Waves game. However, the game between the Midway boys and Kingston was set for a noon tip-off.

The Greenwaves beat our foes to the North 49-42. Seth Lyle led the Greenwaves with 18 points on 4 of 9 shooting from the field and 1 of 2 from behind the arc.

This win is the first time Midway has beat Kingston since the 1994-95 season when the Greenwaves beat Kingston in the Rocky Top Tournament held at Rockwood.

The Greenwaves continue to struggle from the free-throw line as they shot a dismal 20 of 42, making the game much closer than it should have been.

Congratulations to the Greenwaves on their win over the Yellow Jackets from the other side of the bridge.
