Tuesday evening the Midway Greenwaves visited the Greenback Cherokees for what we thought would be a ball game. Instead our boys from the South got a little batting practice on 3 of their pitchers. Big Jon was on the mound for all 5 innings. He struck out 7, walked 4, gave a few chin shots, a couple of hit by pitch (not on purpose of course). Big Jon struck out the side in the bottom of the 5th to close the game. They thought he was tired after the 4th. HA! fooled them.
Even though Sam is my son, this was Sam’s day. He had a good night behind the plate and went 3 for 3 just missing the cycle at the plate, since they intentionally walked him on his 4th at bat. He faced all 3 pitchers, doubled on the first, singled on the second, and a 3 run homer off the 3rd, accounting for 6 RBI’s on the night.
Chris Barry also had 3 hits, AROD, Roberson, and Chinn all had 2 solid hits tonight accounting for 6 RBI’s. E Stansbury, Lloyd, and AP all had RBI hits tonight too accounting for 3 RBI’s. Big Jon got a hit on the night too. 7 singles and 2 doubles brought the score to 10 to 0 at the bottom of the 2nd inning. The game was over right there, but wait, the boys still wanted to play. New Pitcher same story………
I spoke with AROD during the game and was informed that his Lucky Helmet (once owned by none other than Lance Corp. Steve Stansbury, A good friend of AROD’s,) was taken off the Midway Memoribilia shelf at the Stansbury house and given to AROD to use. The #32 helmet is what he credits his turn around at the plate with. I highly doubt that AROD’s talent at the plate is anything other than just good solid hitting, but if it works go with it AROD!!!!!!!
