Girls Game:
It’s been a roller coaster season for the Lady Waves this season. In summer scrimmages and preseason tournaments, the Lady Waves looked capable of racking up some wins this season. But that soon faded as 2 of their top playmakers have been sidelined due to medical reasons for a total of 8 weeks. Thankfully, the Lady Waves are full staffed again and with only one win on the season, not a moment too soon.
Tuesday night, Midway played host to the Grace Christian Rams. The Lady Rams would bring their great tans (it must stay sunnier in Knoxville in the winter) but with Parks and Kathryn Beard back in the lineup, they would need more than that to leave SOR with a win.
The Lady Waves jumped out to an early lead and held the lead, 24-16, at the break. The Lady Waves would then push the lead to 11 at the start of the 4th , however; things began to fall apart. As it always does, the game went back to the basics…passing, dribbling, etc…and the Midway turnovers quickly added up. Unable to handle Grace’s full court press, the Lady Waves began to unravel and the Midway lead was cut to just 3 with 2 minutes remaining. Midway would manage to hold on with free throws as Grace would get into foul trouble and actually have to finish the game with only 4 players.
Haley Parks led the scoring with 16.
Boys Game:
The boys game wasn’t as pleasant. The Grace Christian offense can strike early and often and they did just that as they jumped out to a 21-4 lead in the blink of an eye. A tough Grace defense made it nearly impossible for the Greenwaves to get any open shots.
Quinton Pressley and Zach Hall caught fire in the 4th as they would score 17 between the two of them but it was clearly too little too late as Grace would cruise to a 61-34 win.
Midway will host district foe Greenback on Friday night.
