The Midway Middle School Boys Basketball team wrapped up the 2006-07 season last week with the first winning season in 9 years; finishing the season with an 8-7 record that included wins over county rivals Oliver Springs, Rockwood, and Cherokee.
The Green Wave fell to a tough Lenoir City team in the first round of their district tournament to finish the year 8-8. Kaleb Butler was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Waves were lead by Butler in scoring and rebounds this year. Kaleb scored well over 200 points in 16 games and averaged more that 10 rebounds per game. Josh Manning was second in scoring and a threat to score from anywhere on the court. Jeremy Whitehead, Jacob Parkison, and Larry Risner were the other 8th graders on the team. These three were the specialist on defense, rebounding, and ball handling. They seemed to make big plays whenever called upon. Thomas Viar and Matt Jarvis were also major contributors on the floor even though in 7th grade. Hopefully with experience gained this year and leadership learned from the 8th graders, Matt and Thomas can help to lead next year’s team to another winning year.
