Midway and Oliver Springs hooked up for their second 7-on-7 passing scrimmage Wednesday evening and after more than two hours of play nothing was really decided as both teams scored five touchdowns on the evening.
Midway’s touchdowns came on both sides of the ball as quarterbacks Eric Stansbury and Quinton Pressley combined to throw three touchdowns while the Green Wave defense returned two interceptions for touchdowns.
Oliver Springs got all five of their scores on the offensive side of the football as QB C.J. Pointer tossed four TDs while backup Tyler Carter added a fifth.
Pointer had the best statistical night of all four quarterbacks Wednesday as he completed 17 of 32 passes for 308 yards.
Tight ends were Pointer’s main targets as Carter pulled down five passes for 139 yards to go along with a touchdown while Jordan Murray added five catches for 90 yards with two scores.
RB Curtis Davis was Oliver Springs’ third leading receiver with four catches for 35 yards with a TD.
In his backup role, Carter went 4 for 15 for 100 yards with his big completion being an 80-yard scoring strike to Pointer.
For Midway, Stansbury and Pressley pretty much shared the load as quarterback as the duo combined to complete 20 of 45 passes for 245 yards with three TDs. Stansbury did get the most snaps as he completed 14 of 28 passes for 160 yards with two TDs while Pressley was 6 of 17 for 85 yards with a score.
Harley Davidson and Will Poe were Midway’s biggest threats catching the ball. Davidson led the Green Waves with seven catches for 105 yards and a score while Poe added 73 yards on six receptions.
Stansbury and Mark Childers also had TD receptions for Midway on the day.
While the two teams combined for 653 yards and eight TDs through the air, all was not good for the offenses as the Bobcats and Green Waves combined for a total of 12 interceptions.
Oliver Springs came up with seven interceptions led by Jake Johnson with two picks. Curtis Davis, Buck Sweet, B.B. Bailey, Adam Jackson and Pointer also had interceptions for the Bobcats.
Midway’s Will Poe was the biggest thief on Wednesday as the junior safety came away with three interceptions.
Chris Barry and Ray Robinson also had interceptions for Green Waves with both of their interceptions resulting in touchdowns.
Midway and Oliver Springs are scheduled to meet again on Friday, Aug. 3 in a four-way full contact scrimmage at Midway.
Both teams open the regular season three weeks later as Midway travels to Claiborne County while Oliver Springs visits Silverdale Baptist Academy.
