Fishing with Greg Jones – Read the signs

First week of Alaska fishing trip

I, Rick Cox and his two boys, Justin and Philip, started our adventure Sunday, getting some lunch and catching our fight out of McGhee Tyson airport. We arrived in Anchorage before midnight. Our first meal in Alaska was a traditional favorite, Mexican. Boy, those young men can eat.

The next morning we had some time to kill before picking up our RV. We stopped to get breakfast and walked around town; ending up at Ship Creek, a common Salmon fishing spot in the heart of town. Seeing our first Salmon, we where ready to get the RV and fishing supplies we needed. Justine and Philip went for lunch while Rick and I picked up the RV and watched a video on proper usage of the vehicle. I’m positive we both dosed off during the presentation.

The young man working was less help than the young girl who was also there.

Arriving at our first destination, Willow Creek, we set up the RV and headed to the creek. After watching the other anglers for a while and realizing they were also tourist and did not have a clue either, we decided to give it a try.

We got our first Salmon which where Chums, Silvers, and Pinks. Justin and I brought our catch back to the camp site to take some photos and clean them.

A fellow camper met us as we started to clean our catch asking us if we could read English. Not knowing where this line of questioning was going I answered
