Chris Barry, #32, Senior Linebacker
SORSN: First let me say congratulations on a dominating defensive showing against Claiborne County. When the public talks about the speed of Midway, the talk is most commonly referring to the speed of the running backs and the QB, but this core of linebackers showed incredible speed last Friday night. Tell us your thoughts on last week’s game, a favorite moment from the game, and some areas that you all will need to work on this week.
Chris: We worked hard all week preparing for that game; conditioning, going over plays, watching film, etc… Coach Moser kept telling us we were the better team and that we were going show them Claiborne players SOR style football. Favorite moment had to be opening kick off, first game of the season. This week we need to work on the execution of plays, no mistakes, and special teams.
SORSN: What did the coaches say to the team in the locker room following the win Friday night?
Chris: Coach Moser told us to come out hard in the first 4 minutes and well when the game was over coach just said I could tell it was ours after the 1st defense and offensive possession.
SORSN: You bring enthusiasm to the team as it’s obvious to anyone who has stood within 20 feet along the sidelines from you. What is it that makes strapping on that helmet on a Friday night so much fun?
Chris: Knowing that this is my last year as a football player and wanting to make it undefeated..
SORSN: SORSN.com’s freelance photographer, Travis Jackson, holds the record for muscle cramps in a single season with 27. Ironically, Travis almost went down with a leg cramp last Friday night as he had to scamper out of the way of a tackle along the sidelines. The team however, seemed to be in great shape and despite the heat, had very few cramping or related injuries. Tell us about what you all endured in practices leading up to opening week.
Chris: We ran a lot before the opening week. We wanted to make sure that we was in shape. Coach just kept saying you can’t eat enough and load up on fluids.
SORSN: Linebackers always have the reputation of being a little… “off”. They are usually the ones that are running into the walls head first etc. What’s your crazy story?
Chris: Knowing that in a few moments that I will be hitting everything that comes my way just gets me fired up but, head butting other players usually gets it started.
SORSN: L.T., Al Wilson, Bobby Bouche (sorsn’s personal favorite)…all famous linebackers. Which one do you play like the most?
Chris: I would say L.T., I love being able to go out and hit anything and everything.
