Interview with Wakon Roberson

SORSN: Finally, the big play down the field! Something I’ve been expecting all season long..to hear Marvelous Mike Hayes across the PA, “..deep pass, complete to Wakon Roberson.” Does it feel like a little weight is off your shoulders now that you and Eric connected down the field, and perhaps it’ll loosen things up moving forward?

Wakon: I’m just glad I finally got that big break I’ve been waiting for and now mean Eric can hook up more often.

SORSN: It seems as if you’ve been on the field for several years but actually, you’re just a sophomore. Is the mental part of the game: reading defenses, understanding play calls, etc something that you are familiar with now or is it something that you continue to work on?

Wakon: I have pretty much got it down but Im still learning.

SORSN: After watching your older sister, one of the team’s ball girls, throw the game ball to the ref’s, it’s obvious she’s more at home on the run-ways than the sidelines. Did you and Tanner not toss the pigskin around with her while growing up?

Wakon: We tried but she never wanted to break a nail.

SORSN: She stated you would not play football with her, however, she claims to have some photos of you playing “dress up” with her that she is willing to share with sorsn.com. Something about bobby-pins and eye shadow..

Wakon: No comment

SORSN: A lot of predictions are already being made about this team: possible 9-1 regular season record, Region Championship, a run into the state playoffs. As the season progresses and with all the hype on the radio, newspapers, and sorsn, how difficult is it to continue to stay focused at only the next game?

Wakon: Coach tells us to focus one game at a time and not look ahead toward future games..but it would be nice to win state.

SORSN: Your brother, Tanner, had a great career at MHS. How many times a week does he remind you of that? Rumor was he tried to have Cade Road renamed to Golden Toe Drive. When can we expect that 2 TD, 100+ yard, break out game by Wakon…not “Tanner’s little brother”?

Wakon: Not much but when he does, he might bust out a trophy or old paper clippings. They didn’t name the road after Tanner because they are going to name it after me, Golden Hands Drive. I hope sooner than later.

SORSN: Can you please inform Coach Moser that next time he sends you on the deep route, send you up the sidelines on the same side as our cameras..not the other side of the field. All play calls should be toward the camera…we have an audience to please.

Wakon: Next time in the huddle, I’ll change the play so I go to the camera side.
