Surf was definitely up in “The Emerald Forest” Friday night full of a packed house chock full of Greenwave supporters as the boys from SOR put on a rushing clinic for the paying customers in attendance as they used over 350 yards as a team on the ground, combined with a “Gang-Green” defense that plagued the Grace Christian Academy Rams with four turnovers and eight sacks on Grace Christian Academy’s unfortunate quarterback to the tune of a resounding 49-15 drubbing of the Rams at “The Emerald Forest” Friday night.
In the opening quarter, Grace took their opening drive downfield and scored on a fourth down play from twenty yards away and booted the point after attempt through the uprights to put the Waves in a position they weren’t accustomed to very often this season, trailing the Rams 7-0 with 6:39 to go in the opening quarter. Midway, however, would respond right back with a six yard touchdown run from “Sugar” Ray Robinson. Jeremy Whitehead, who was the kicker on this night for Midway, had his point after attempt blocked, making the score 7-6 with 1:26 to go in the opening quarter.
After the “Gang-Green” defense forced Grace Christian to punt, the return was brought to you by HD. Harley Davidson, that is, to cover 55 yards on the return to set the boys from the South with good field position. Five plays later, Eric Stansbury found his way into the end-zone from five yards out to put the Waves on the board again. The two point conversion was no good, making the score 12-7 with 7:26 left in the half. The Waves had a hiccup on their next drive with Eric Stansbury being picked off by a Ram defender. But once again, the Midway defense submerged the Grace Christian passing attack and got the ball back after a punt. With the score at 12-7, Greenwave faithful were a bit nervous, but the drive to close out the half alleviated some of those concerns as the fans got another Eric Stansbury touchdown from 8 yards out, this time with Stansbury performing a head over heels dive into the end-zone that got about a nine on the style points scale. Ray-Ray jabbed his way through the Grace Christian line for the two point conversion to make the score 20-7 with seconds left in the half. The Rams desparately tried to get in the end-zone but Wakon Roberson picked up an interception to close the half with a 20-7 lead for the “Green Team”.
On the very first offensive play from scrimmage in the second half, Ray-Ray “You-Tubed” the Grace defenders with a 53 yard run that saw him eluding defenders left and right all the way to the dance floor. “The Raven” William Poe was in flight on the two point conversion and they would catch him nevermore to make the score 28-7 11:44 to go in the half. Grace Christian would respond with a touchdown pass and a two point conversion to make the score 28-15, but Midway was about to wash out the Rams with an offensive barrage that had to be seen to be believed. On the next drive, set up by a 30 yard run from Harley, Eric Stansbury would style and profile his way to the end zone on a two yard touchdown run. The two point try was no good, making the score 34-15. After forcing Grace to turn the ball over on downs, it only took three plays for Stansbury to make his fourth and final touchdown of the evening from three yards out. Eric would find Ray-Ray open in the end-zone for the two point conversion, making the score 42-15 with 2:54 left in the third quarter. The “Green Team” came through again on defense, forcing a turnover on downs to wrap up the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Chris Barry got in on the fun in the secondary with a pick of his own. The next drive was once again presented in the form of HDTD with SOR celebrity Harley Davidson doing the bulk of the work, capping the drive off with a nine yard touchdown run. Whitehead hit the PAT to make the score 49-15 with 4:39 left in the game. The game was wrapped up with Ashton Chinn recovering a fumble and Charles Binger racking up an interception to close out the game with an impressive 49-15 victory.
Coming up next week for the “Green Team” is a familiar opponent in county rival Harriman, coming off of an 18-7 win over Cloudland. Will the boys from the South lay the smack down on the Blue Devils once again? Come to “The Emerald Forest” next Friday night to find out!
