Waves Break Record, 397 points

It wasn’t their most convincing victory of the season but nevertheless, Midway got the job done as they rolled 34-6 over Wartburg to end the regular season at 9-1.

Midway took the field with a three-legged horse as Harley Davidson would sit this one out as he recovers from a concussion that he suffered at Greenback. Ray Robinson would take up the slack, rushing for 2 touchdowns and 200+ yards.

Needing only 12 points, it didn’t take long for the Waves to break the record. Up 7-0 in the 1st quarter, QB Eric Stansbury carried the ball from 3 yards out and behind a big surge from his line, crossed the goal line for the teams 376th point of the season.

With Davidson out, a couple other Green Waves saw opportunity knock. Chris Barry has made a few big catches already this year and hauled in a couple more on this cold night on the hill. Tight End, Steven Blasko hauled in his first ever pass…and it so happened to be for a touch down. With the big man scoring, we expected to see some celebration, but the reserved Blasko simply tossed the ball to the ref as if he’d been there a dozen times before….or he was so shocked at having caught the ball he didn’t know what to do. Blasko would again have the ball thrown his way later in the game and again would catch it for a touch down but it would be nullified by a penalty.

The Waves got a little sloppy with the ball prior to the half, turning the ball over both in the air and on the ground. The Waves, however, won the turnover battle by coming up with 4 interceptions on the night. Wakon Roberson would account for 2 of those.

With a 34-0 lead in the 2nd half, the 1st team headed to the sidelines. The Waves continued to rush the ball efficiently; led by Dillion Frazier’s 47 yards.

This Midway Green Waves team now holds the school record for most points in a regular season with 397. This surpasses the previous record held by the 1988 team of 374 points. They also tied the school record of 9-1 for best regular season record. They share this record along with the 2001 Green Waves.

Two other school records have fallen this season. The Highest Points Average was previously held by the 1988 team with 31.2 but now the 2007 team has set that record at an impressive 39.7 ppg average. Harley Davidson set an individual record of longest run from scrimmage with a 94 yard TD run against Oakdale. The record was previously held by Shane Gordon.

Congratulations to the Midway Green Waves on an outstanding season. The real season now begins with Midway hosting Grace Christian this Friday night in the 1st round of the playoffs. Kick off is at 7pm.
