It was a defining game for the Lady Waves’ season: how would they respond to the embarrassing performance at Wartburg. Dwell on the past and allow the Grace Christian Lady Rams to walk all over them, or would they answer the battle cry of their coach and get a much needed win and a chance to move into a 1st place tie with Greenback in the District. The Lady Waves chose the latter.
The Lady Waves took a 27-16 lead into halftime. Grace rallied in the 3rd to pull within 6. But the Lady Waves withstood the charge and their offense caught fire, outscoring Grace 25-9 in the final period.
Amanda Soard cut the Lady Rams deep, knocking down 3 3-pointers. And you can call her Windex, because Angel Edgemon was cleaning the glass…coming up with some big rebounds, a total of 8 on the night.
Haley Parks had 14 points and Lacey Davidson added 11 points and 8 rebounds.
But this night belonged to Kat. Kathryn Beard was simply en fuego and put up a (high school) career high 23 points, the majority of which came in the 2nd half, to lead the Lady Waves to a 63-34 win.
We talked to Coach Woody after the game.
It was a good performance but we still have a lot work to do at the free-throw line.
After not playing since December 20th, I think the girls were ready to hit the hardwood and what better way to start the New Year than beating Grace. The win puts us at 2-1 in district play with another big district game this Friday at Harriman .
