How many chances do you get to record a perfect game? How about two in two days. Midway pitcher Hannah Colyer did just that. The only difference in the two games was that this time she decided to share the spotlight with freshman pitcher Taylor Narramore.
Colyer pitched four perfect innings. No runs, hits, or walks. She struck out seven batters. Narramore took over in the fifth frame and added two more strikeouts. That brought the team total to nine strikeouts, while no runners were allowed to reach base. Once again, the Green fielders did their part to preserve the win and perfect game. That included a hard line drive back at third baseman Lacy Davidson, which she instinctively snagged.
Kati Alexander was the work horse at the plate as she batted 1.000 on the night, including two stand-up doubles.
The Lady Waves held a 3-0 lead entering the second inning and never looked back. Alexander roped a shot to center field for her first double. Michele Walden followed with a double of her own that scored Alexander. Paige Moree was robbed on a long hit to center by the McMinn center fielder. Midway would continue to score, however. After four innings, Midway would hold a 5-0 lead. McMinn Central would go down in order in the top of fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Coffman and Davidson would single and “Alexander the Great” would respond again with another hard shot to the outfield for a two-run double.
Midway would hold the 7-0 lead into the sixth inning. In the bottom of the sixth, Erica McMurry would single and Alexander would walk. McMurry would score on a Walden single. Moree walked to load the bases. Ashley Alexander drew a walk to score Kati. Brianne Reynolds singled and Walden slid safely into home to beat the throw on the attempted force play. Final score: Midway 10, McMinn Central 0.
