Having to be in the locker room this past week was a gut check for the team, but hey the sun has really been shinning bright lately, and man its just so dagum hot outside. We discussed maybe calling the game off this week due to the increased heat and all the players noted complaints and “personal problems”. We probably need to take more breaks and worry less about how were gonna beat whoever it is we are playing. We wouldn’t want the boys to be too uncomfortable during football practice, In South of The River.
It took this whole week to get the boys back to where they should be mentally and physically. It was not an easy task, but it had to be done nonetheless. We found out where we stood as either men or boys before the Claiborne game. Me and the boys got to spend some quality bonding/ team meshing time together with and without the weights on Tuesday. I was impressed with how much leadership we actually had. Gugin has really come out full force this year. He’s in the best shape of his life, and he only puked four times after he was finished practicing becoming a better brother to his team mates. That’s good for him.
After Wednesday’s practice the weight room and the boys “magically” got quiet. I don’t know what could have got into them????? There must have been something in all the water we have been drinking or all the band aids and tape and gauze we’ve needed for paper cuts and small bruises or stubbed toes, or belly aches, or outstanding life ending injuries like a bump on the arm.
Coach Moser really knows how to get them motivated and serious, and probably even focused just to name a few. Somehow AC/DC is just not going to play a big role in our pre-practice anymore. Nick won’t be singing however he sings, Ray won’t be wearing his hat sideways and bumping to a beat, and Poe cant listen to KC and the Sunshine band anymore. All we hear now in the weight-room is pain and weights and motivating silence…. because we are so happy to be blessed with the opportunity to play for Midway and up hold all those traditions that we pride ourselves on 24-7. Like toughness and brotherhood. Blood, sweat and tears with your friends and never regretting a minute of it because you gave it all you could….right boys??? That’s what motivates us now. Not Ozzy Osbourne screaming crazy train, or John Denver singing whatever it is that he sings. Thank God I’m a Country Boy..Stockton will miss that song.
Oh yah and then we beat Claiborne 40- 12 on Friday. FDY-SOR, and then back to work on Monday for another tough week in the Emerald forest. That’s last week in the locker room.
