Interview with Coach O’Toole

SORSN: Coach, this week the Waves travel Highway 27 again for a region game, this time to Sunbright. Given Midway has 2 extremely tough region games remaining and Sunbright has 3 region games remaining, two of which they could easily win, how important is this Friday nights game against the Tigers? Can you explain the playoff implications that this game may have?

Coach O’Toole: Sunbright may be the most important game of the year on account of the many different questions to be answered. Do the Greenwaves have the fortitude to bounce back after a big loss: that’s the first question. Next is the playoffs; a win will all most guarantee a spot in the playoffs for us but a loss for us would be devastating.

If Sunbright gets the win over us, and win against Coalfield and Oakdale, then they would be given the playoff spot. Also on account of the many tiebreakers, some other team could receive the playoff spot with a loss from us. We need to have a good week of practice and go play Midway football.

SORSN: The Waves seem to improve week after week. And though the loss to Oneida was a hard one, your defense gave the team a chance to win the game down the stretch. What are some key areas of the defense that you will be working on this week to prepare for a stretch of tough region games?

Coach O’Toole: We need to focus on the 3 T’s… Tackling, Turnovers and Third Down. Except yesterday, Coach Steve thought the 3 T’s were Time To Talk.

SORSN: Last Friday night we witnessed Jacob Franklin take the field for the first time this season. Can you highlight for us the effort and what this young man has faced to return to action?

Coach O’Toole: Jacob getting to play Friday night is hands down the best moment I have ever had coaching. He has overcome so much and never once complained, just asked what he needs to do. His heart is as big as SOR itself!

SORSN: Coach, you haven’t supplied us with your
