A classic matchup between Greenback & Midway always brings out some familiar faces of long ago. Despite the weather, this year was no different as many got to catch up with old friends.
We were all expecting a great game; however, with news earlier in the week of several key players being suspended from Friday nights throw-down with Greenback, the South of the River community had a somber attitude going into a game which normally brings noise & chaos out of both fan bases.
Greenback’s fans & players brought spirit and excitement to the game, while the Green Nation & players appeared to be concentrating on everything but the game. It would turn out to be a long, cold, wet night for the Waves as Greenback would cruise to a 34-6 victory.
Greenback quickly got on the board early as they put together an impressive drive on the ground to take a 7-0 lead to start the game. However, Ray Robinson would answer the call of his coaches and break several tackles on his way to the dance floor. A failed 2-point conversion would leave the score 6-7, bad guys with the lead.
Much respect goes out to Ray Ray on this night. He ran hard and proved how much of a work-horse he is. Robinson had success early in the game running but the Greenback defense soon realized that the “Raven” was in street clothes on the sidelines, thus were able to simply lock-in on Robinson. It had to be frustrating for a runner such as R2 to have 8 in the box keying on your every move.
Greenback was also able to eliminate the Midway passing game by getting constant pressure up the middle. One would think that a screen pass would be successful in this scenario but the
