After an 8-2 loss on Monday to the Lady Waves, the Rockwood Lady Tigers traveled to Midway on Tuesday night to try to even the series. Rockwood would not fare any better on “The Hill”, as Midway handed them another district loss, besting the Lady Tigers, 5-0.
Senior pitcher Hannah Colyer once again looked like the All-State pitcher everyone is familiar with. Hannah struck out 10 batters, allowing only one hit and one walk. The Lady Waves’ defense was sharp, and the team committed only one error on the night.
Just like on Monday at Rockwood, the Midway girls put two runs on the board in the first inning and never looked back. Senior Krystal Rue started the Green off with a single and stole second base. Colyer then drove the ball hard down the third base line for a standup double that scored Rue. Senior first baseman Kati Alexander would finish the scoring in the first by driving the ball to right field. That hit drove in courtesy runner Kayla Roberts.
In the fourth frame, sophomore Paige Moree blasted the ball up the middle to get on base. Classmate Taylor Narramore crushed the ball to right field to score Moree. That gave the Green a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, senior Alex Coffman laid down a perfect bunt to start the inning. Rue would drive the ball to right, and pitcher Colyer would single to score Coffman. Third baseman Michelle Walden got a sacrifice RBI when she brought Rue in on a grounder back to the Rockwood pitcher. That would be the last run of the game, as the final two innings were scoreless.
The Lady Waves are now 2-0 in district play on the season. Midway will be on the road for the rest of this week. The team will travel to Oakdale on Friday to play the Lady Eagles on 5:30 PM. On Saturday, the girls will go all the way to Oneida, meeting the Lady Indians at 1:00 PM. Next Monday, the Lady Waves will host Tellico in a double header that will start at 5:00 PM.
