Monday night was Senior Night for the Midway Lady Wave softball team. The five members of the Lady Wave Class of 2009 were recognized before the game. The field looked great for the occasion, and was decked out with a school logo and the uniform numbers of each member of the senior class. After the game was over, a first rate cookout was held by the team parents and the coaches.
As for the game, the Midway girls breezed through this one. Pitcher Hannah Colyer was especially impressive on this night. Colyer pitched a perfect game, facing only twelve batters and striking out nine of them.
The explosive Lady Wave offense helped end this one early. The Midway girls jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back. Key performers at the plate included Colyer (2-2, 2 RBIs), Paige Moree (2-3, 2 RBIs), and Danielle Borum (1-1, 2 RBIs). The Lady Waves extended their lead to 15-0 early in the fourth inning, and the game was called.
It’s difficult to put into words just what this senior senior class has meant to the softball program and to our whole community. We have written on this subject recently. We will refer the reader to this season’s Senior Interview, and also to the article titled Lady Waves Softball – 2009 Preview.
As for Hannah Colyer, Alex Coffman, Kati Alexander, Krystal Rue, and Ashley Alexander; we just want to thank you again, girls. You have done well and made us all proud.
The girls will now play two games on the road before coming back home for the final regular season contest. The Lady Waves will visit Knox Webb on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the girls will try to complete the regular season sweep of District 3A, when they take on the Lady Cherokees at Greenback. On Thursday, the big region showdown with Coalfield will take place to end the regular season.
