Overall, the 2009 season was a successful one for the Midway Lady Wave softball team. The Girls in Green once again won the district championship and made a return trip to the TSSAA state tournament. For this year’s two seniors however, it must have been a bittersweet experience at best. Haley Parks missed the entire season after a devastating knee injury, which she suffered in basketball. Michelle Walden suffered a broken pinky late in the softball season. Both girls had to watch from the sidelines, as the Lady Waves went for their fourth straight appearance in Murfreesboro.
Shawn Renfro: Haley, it’s been a long time since you took the field for the Lady Waves. What are you thinking as you get ready for the start of the 2010 season?
Haley Parks: I have to be honest. I am very EXCITED, but scared at the same time.
SR: Michelle, your injury was late in the season, but I know that didn’t make it any easier for you. You played in a fall league last year, but what are you feeling about finally getting back to playing for the Lady Waves?
Michelle Walden: I am a little nervous about it all, but I have played so long that I think when I step foot back on the field, all the nerves will go away.
SR: Haley, what are your goals for your senior season?
Haley: I plan to work very hard for myself and my team. Nothing would mean more than making it to state again for my team, myself and our community this season. People don
