Lady Waves’ bats silenced by Rockwood

After a rain-out on Tuesday, the weather cleared for Wednesday’s big district game with the Rockwood Lady Tigers. Uncharacteristically for the Lady Waves, the bats went a little cold in this one. The Midway girls suffered a disappointing loss, their first to Rockwood or any other district team in several years. The final score was 3-0, and the SOR girls caught a few bad breaks to get there. This loss gives Midway a split with the Lady Tigers. We’ll have to see how the remaining district games play out.

Freshman Alex Richardson took the pitching position in this one, while senior Michelle Walden started at first base and relieved Richardson late in the game. Winky Stansbury made her first start for the Lady Waves, playing catcher and getting a big hit. Hits in this game also went to center fielder Danielle Borum, Richardson, second baseman Taylor Narramore, third baseman Hali Morris, and Paige Moree. Moree moved from her usual catcher position to right field for this game. Richardson struck four batters out on the day.

The girls won’t have long to ruminate on this loss. They’ll be hosting a prime opponent, AA McMinn Central, on Thursday at 5:30 PM.
