SORSN: Coach, a tough loss Friday night to a pretty good Harriman team. What positives did you take away from the game?
Coach Moser: We fought hard. We’ve got alot of players that really care. We were very close to taking control of that game. We have to learn to put our foot on their throat when it’s our time.
SORSN: Coach the first couple of weeks have been tough on the Waves and this team is fairly young at the skill positions, how has the team reacted to the trials of the first couple of weeks and what do you do to keep their heads up and focused on the next opponent?
Coach Moser: For the most part they have came to work to get better. Some have to realize that you improve each day and each week. When you are sophomores or juniors and seniors that have very little playing experience, it takes maximum effort every day for individual and team improvement. We have some good players on this team. We expect to get better as the season moves on. We are so close, we just have to learn how to get over the hump.
SORSN: What players do you look to step up on this team in the next few weeks?
Coach Moser: We expect all players to step up. Football is the ultimate team sport. All players at all positions need to realize the importance of their job on each play.
SORSN: Coach the defense has been competitive, yet susceptible to the big play. The offense has been inconsistent in establishing its identity so far this season. How does the coaching staff go into Week 3 preparing the team for the upcoming week, while addressing concerns of the previous week? Does a coaching staff do things differently in week 3 than it does in week 1 or in week 8?
Coach Moser: Be consistent with effort and fundamentals every drill, every rep, every play, every day. You do this and good things will happen.
SORSN: How does the team stand on injuries and what have you had to do to adjust to those injuries?
Coach Moser: Cameron Gains, is still out with an ankle. He is expected back in 1 or 2 weeks. Logan Davidson is out with a shoulder since pre pads and will be back in about 2 weeks. Other than that just normal bumps and bruises.
SORSN: Coach Mike Hayes threw some legendary temper tantrums, Coach Darrell T Ruffner has been known to slam a clipboard or two and Coach Glenn A Wheaton, well good Lord there was no telling what Coach Wheaton would do when he was trying to find extra motivation for his team (see Glenn Wheaton stories, sorsn.com). Tell us Coach, have you developed a “special tactic” to use when your teams back is against the wall and if so, can you tell us what it is? Have you considered breaking out any new tactics this season for the Green Team? Could we consider the week 1 half time fence walker hand slapping a new motivational tactic, and if so will we see it again soon?
Coach Moser: Well, the radio is still in the field house. I think about motivational tactics all the time, but most of them are spontaneous.
