Each year, before the start of the season, Midway & Greenback fans alike scan the schedule and circle that all important date of when the two teams meet. That date is this Friday night.
Greenback started 2010 in high gear…winning their first 3 games; including a win over Rockwood. Since then, it’s been a roller coaster ride for our tribal foes. They dropped 2 games, losing to Harriman 21-33, before rebounding with a 17-7 win over Oneida.
To date, the Midway Green Waves have had a disappointing 2010. Winless on the season, the boys in Green have let 2nd half leads disappear and fumbled away many more opportunities to win. But any former Green Wave will tell you…..all of that can be wiped away with a win over Greenback.
We turn the calendars this Friday; can the Midway Green Waves turn the season around as well?
Guys, gal…and Kyle…..make your selections.
Ralton Emory:
Anyone who follows the SORSN pick panel from year to year already knows my feelings toward “William Blount” South. So I won’t beleaguer the point.
My hope for this game is that Midway finds the heart to lay the proverbial “wood” to their old-time rival. That would salvage the season and start the rebuilding process.
I hope I’m wrong, but I will pick William Blount’s junior high.
Greenback 31, Midway 21
Amber Johnson:
Greenback….Oh how I loathe thee. Winless or not, we gotta pull out all the stops. There is no way on God’s green earth I’m picking Greenback. Let’s go boys fight ’em tooth and nail (literally). This could be a season changer.
Randy Rose:
We just flat out don’t like Greenback. I really, really would like to see the Green put it together and get a win this week. I hate to do it, but I’m going to have to pick Greenback.
Barry Narramore:
I say they can! Last week mistakes killed the Green but they were very much in the game until the 4th quarter. This will be another tough one but I can’t figure how the green has not got at least one win by now. I think this is our week. Go Big Green!!!
Kyle Canup:
As much as we all hate greenback, I don’t see Midway picking up a win Friday night.
From the way it looks, Greenback doesn’t sound like too bad of a football team, and I don’t see Midway getting a W until at least late in the football season. So I got Greenback taking the W.
Michael Rose:
Dare I pick the Waves in the upset this week? Let me answer that up front. No. I think Greenback will win the game. Now lets move on from that.
If you have ever worn the Green jersey in competition, you have to have developed “a little extra love” in your heart for the Greenback Cherokees. For about a 15 year period in the 1980’s and 1990s every year it was Midway and Greenback for the district title and the coveted first round home playoff game associated with a win (which meant no travels to Copper Basin or South Pittsburg in playoff week one, where winning was a big task for anyone). It was Branson versus Satterfield, no love lost, no easing off the throttle if you get a lead, a rub salt in the wound if necessary kind of rivalry. Neither team would quit, give up or stop competing, regardless of the score or circumstances. You play hard until the echo of the whistle and a bit beyond if necessary. That’s just the way it was and the way it should be for Midway and Greenback.
I and every Green blooded Wave fan expects that kind of effort this week from Coach Moser’s team. Regardless of score, regardless of how the game is going, you play the game, and you play your hardest. Every play, every minute, every second. Good luck Green.
