Midway over Greenback

Article by guest corespondent Brody Jones

If Bert Bertlecamp was announcing tonight’s Midway/Greenback game, he would be calling Matt Jarvis “Money” as Jarvis made six three-pointers en route to a 55-50 victory over the much-hated orange and black team that doesn’t hail from the bituminous mountain.

Chalk it up to pre-game jitters (or the return of the HORRIBLE warm-up music), but neither team could hit water if they fell out of a boat into the Clinch River in the first period as Midway took an early 5-4 lead. But in the second period, Matt “Money” Jarvis was making it rain three-pointers on a helpless and befuddled Greenback defense as the boys from “South Of the River” had runs of 12-5 and 8-2 in the second period to take a 25-11 lead at the break.

Those pesky Cherokees managed to whittle the lead down to 32-23 at the end of the third period. In the final period, both teams combined for 50 points, but in the end, like DJ Khaled, all the boys from “South Of the River” did was win 55-50 and punched their ticket to the region tournament and a semi-final district tournament game with that blue team at the northern end of the county. Greenback had a 24-23 edge on the boards but Midway had an 11-8 advantage in team steals and a 7-3 tilt in three-point land. Matt “Money” Jarvis (23 points, 6 treys), Thomas “The Chairman Of The Boards” Viar (10 points, 10 boards), Jake “The Snake” Parkison (8 points, 5 boards), and Caleb Ruffner (7 points, 5 assists) led the charge for the Green Team.
