The Midway Green Waves and Lady Waves both had strong finishes to their regular season schedules, with big wins against district opponents in the last week and a half.
The Wave baseball team set a new school record for most wins in a baseball season. The SOR boys defeated Harriman by an incredible 7-0 margin last week at home, went on to beat non-district Coalfield in a double header by a combined score of 18-7, then pulled off a huge 8-5 win over Rockwood to close out the home schedule. The Waves finished the regular season by defeating Cosby to get their 16th victory of 2011. The Midway boys finished in a three way tie for second place in the district. They’ll host a first round game against Greenback on Friday at 5:30 PM.
The Lady Wave softball team played two district foes to complete the regular season. Last Tuesday, the SOR girls went to Grace Christian Academy and got an emphatic 6-1 win over the Lady Rams. On Monday, the Lady Waves topped the Harriman Lady Devils by a score of 12-6. The Midway girls finished in first place, with a district record of 9-1. Sophomore pitcher Alex Richardson was named District 3A MVP. Teammates Paige Moree, Taylor Narramore, Danielle Borum and Christina Stansbury were also named to the All-District Team. The Lady Waves will host the district tournament, which starts on Friday at 4 PM. The Midway girls received a first-round bye, and will not play until Monday.
