This week the Midway Green Waves will put behind them the opening week loss to Jamal Jones & Lookout Valley; focusing instead on the home opener against the Whitwell Tigers.
This is a first meeting (to our knowledge) between the two schools. Whitwell, like Midway, is coming off a rough 2010 season. The Tigers had just one win on the 2010 season (Taft) and also enters 2011 season with a new head coach, which has become the norm at Whitwell.
Last week, both teams had similar experiences in their openers. Midway was rocked by Lookout Valley, 6-42; Whitwell got thumped by Copper Basin, 6-53. Who will improve the most from game #1? Who will get their first win of the season? Let’s ask the Pick Panel.
Ralton Emory:
Obviously, mentally learning “how” to win is a large portion of the game. I’m not sure this young Green Team has that just yet. It could start this week and I hope it does, however, until they can prove to me that they “can” win…I just don’t see it.
I hope I’m wrong, but Whitwell will win in a close heartbreaker for the Greenwave.
Whitwell 26, Midway 24
Randy Rose:
Last week was a tough start for the Greenwave, but that one is over and this team has an opportunity this week to get a win against Whitwell, also called “Whuutwell” in some parts of Marion County. Can they do it? They will have to play much better, especially on defense, but I think they can. Give me Midway in a close one.
Barry Narramore:
Well week one was disappointing, but one week doesn’t make a season!
Viar made some good throws and running back Clay Clowers made a couple of good runs. Freshman Zack Hearon had a few good runs to end the game. Lyle and Christian Moore showed some impressive moves on kickoff returns which they got plenty of opportunities at.
Whitwell was 1-9 last season and lost big to Cooper Basin in season opener.
Speed killed the green last week but this week we’ll be little more evenly matched. Give me the green in a dog fight! Go Big Green!!!

Whitwell
Kyle Canup:
I know both teams are going to want to rebound off a Week 0 loss and get their record to .500, but I think the Waves will be really pushing their self to get a W for Coach Campbell and get some momentum going their way. The Waves just need to play the ball and make sure they execute on both sides of the ball and hopefully they will come out with the win. I am going with Midway again this week and hopefully they come through and show everyone they’re gonna play ball this year.
Amber Johnson:
The Greenwaves are looking to bounce back off a tough season opener loss. We hear this will be a better match up against Whitwell. I think Midway is gonna pull this one out with the help of the home crowd.
