Girls Game

On Friday night, the “Girls from South Of the River” crossed the bridge to face that hated orange and navy blue colored school “North Of the River” that those yankees from up north refer to as Roane County High School. Despite the best efforts of the Lady Waves, they would drop a 45-25 decision on this night. That orange and navy blue team got out to an early 10-2 lead and would end the first period leading 13-6. Things went from bad to worse for the Lady Waves in the second period after an 11-0 tilt by the school from “North Of the River” to give them a 24-6 lead. However, the Lady Waves used a 9-0 run to get within 24-15 at the half. But the second half was all the orange and navy blue school whose name will not be spoken of as they used a 12-6 third period and a 9-4 final period to take the 45-25 win.
Midway gave up a 41-24 tilt on the boards and lost in team steals 12-11. Midway was led by Allyson Klinker (10 points) while Hali Morris
(8 boards) also played well in the loss.

Boys Game

Like the rapper Fat Joe, the “Boys from South Of the River” were making it rain… three-pointers, that is, hitting 10 of them and battling cheap shots by that orange & navy blue team, not to mention “home-cooking”, erm, questionable officiating only to come up short in a 55-53 heart-breaker Friday night. Things started off a bit shaky for the “Mean Green Offensive Machine” trailing early on by a 6-0 margin.
But Midway battled back with a 10-5 surge to get within 11-10 before the Jackets took a 19-14 lead at the end of the first period. Kingston would get out to a 25-14 lead early in the second period thanks to a
6-0 surge, but a 13-6 tilt by the SOR boys got them within 31-27 at half-time. In the third period, that much-hated team from “North Of the River” took a 42-36 lead going into the final period. The “Boys from South Of the River” pulled to within 46-45 thanks to a 9-4 run, only to give up a 6-0 tilt to trail 52-45 with two and a half minutes left. But those boys from “South Of the River” were chipping away at the deficit little by little using an 8-3 tilt down the stretch to get within 55-53, but a last-ditch three-pointer fell short as Midway dropped a 55-53 decision. Midway had a 10-4 advantage in three-pointers, but a 37-24 swing on the boards led to the Waves demise. Adam “Thunder” Houser (17 points) left the Kingston defense, in the words of the great AC-DC… “thunder-struck”, Matt “Money”
Jarvis (10 points), Caleb “White Power” Ruffner (9 points, 6 boards, 5 assists), along with “The Christian Coalition” in Christian Moore (8
points) and “The Chairman Of The Boards” Thomas Viar (7 points, 8
boards) all had great showings in the loss.
