On some recent fishing trips with my brother on Chickamauga, I landed some of the nicest bluegills and redear sunfish (shell crackers) that I had caught in years. Having confidence that I would be able to find the fish again I invited Ed Rose and Boyd Edgemon, two of Midway’s fishing forefathers, to join me for an afternoon of fishing. After receiving the third degree from my wife on their safety, we headed out. These guys have fished for sixty years without wearing a life jacket and I did not think I had much chance of convincing them to wear one today.
We started out at one of my favorite spots with just a little luck. We soon moved to another and then another with about the same results. The weather was cool and we were able to fish until late. By quitting time we had managed about twenty nice pan fish, which was enough for a Mother’s Day meal. One would think with all the experience in the boat at that time, we could have managed more than 20 fish. This proves that sometimes luck is better than experience. The fellowship, however, made the trip a memorable one.
Take some fishing, Greg
