Interview with Lady Wave seniors Taylor Whitehead and Alisa Barger

The Lady Waves are playing some of their best ball at the right time.  The Lady Waves are defeated Tellico in overtime to advance to the District Championship.  The last time the Lady Waves won the District? 1995.  The Lady Waves will play Grace Christian on Monday for the district title.  A couple gals have dedicated the last 4 years to the program in hopes of adding some more banners in the gym.  Taylor and Alisa skipped out on senior English (not really but when we need good lead in, sometimes we make stuff up) to free up some time for an interview with SORSN.com.
SORSN: Ladies, first of all, congratulations and thank you for 4 years of dedication and energy given to Midway athletics. Looking back on all those games…all those practices….all those road trips…..what is one of your favorite single memories?

Alisa: Definitely the beach trip We had a blast!
Taylor: One of my favorite memories is my very first start against Cosby my sophomore year. I blocked a girls shot the first play, but I was too nervous to celebrate.

SORSN: all have those moments, words, days that we would like back. What game would you like to have over?

Alisa: Honestly, my last game will be the one I want back. I will miss it more than anything!
Taylor: I have to agree with Alisa. I will always want my last game back.

SORSN: You had several freshmen on the squad this year. Can you share with us any “welcome to the team” gestures that were handed out? Some may refer to them as “freshmen initiation” but we’ll just refer to them as gestures. What “gestures” did you as freshmen receive?

Alisa: The freshman actually just came in and became part of the team. They became a part of us. My freshman year I was welcomed to the team which was great being from another school and all. Coaches and other players helped me out a lot in any way they could.
Taylor: We don’t really have gestures. The freshmen always come in and it’s like we’re one big family.

SORSN: It’s been rumored that the Lady Waves have a pregame ritual….care to share with the readers of SORSN?
Alisa:   Well on Game days we go to town, get something to eat, and come back to get ready for the game. We talk about the game usually complimenting Leffew’s crazy tie. We clap it up and pray right before we go upstairs.
Taylor: We usually get our food in town then come back. We get ready while blasting music. We usually pick out Leffew’s tie, even though all of them are pretty ugly.

SORSN: Now it’s time for a short answer survey.
Who does the best Coach Leffew impersonation?
Alisa: I really do not think anyone can act like Coach Leffew. He is pretty unique.
Taylor:  I don’t think anyone can do a Leffew impression. He’s definitely one of a kind.

Favorite away gym to play at?
Alisa: My gym would have to be Tellico. I really don’t like the place in general , but I have always shot good there. My all time scoring game was there. (26 points).
Taylor: I really like Harriman’s gym.

Least favorite away gym to play at?
Alisa: Greenback! It is horrible. Fire alarms going off and everything else.
Taylor: I hate playing at Grace. The gym is terrible and it never fails that the refs are awful.

Which parent(s) do you hear the most during a game?
Alisa: I can always hear Amy Woody saying “lets go Barger.”
Taylor: I actually tune people out pretty good. People always tell me they yell at me, but I can never hear them.

And finally, who looks better in a speedo, Coach Leffew or Seth Hughes?
Alisa: Sorry coach, but Seth has this one!
Taylor: Seth Hughes. No doubt. 100%

Thank you girls for all that you have done for MHS and good luck in the big game.
