The Waves hit the road this Friday for their first district game, visiting the 2-2 Tellico Plains. TP has wins over Copper Basin and Andrews (North Carolina). Their losses came at the hands of Grace University and Sequoyah. In last year’s meeting, the Waves won 28-14.
Last week the Waves put on a great showing in front of the home crowd, defeating Hancock 53-21. The Midway defense, which has been under fire this season, only gave up 2 TDs. One of Hancock’s touchdowns came on a returned fumble. The balanced Midway offense continues to put up big numbers.
Will the Waves get a win on the road? The Panel chimes in…..
Steven Sears: Nice win last week Midway. It’s nice seeing the offense producing 50+ point games. The defense looked like they made some improvements last week against Hancock, but they still need to tighten up because the games are only going to get tougher. This week’s matchup is hard for me to pick because I really can’t tell if Tellico Plains has improved that much since last year or if their opponents are just that bad. The bears killed Copper Basin last week 42-14 which was very surprising to me until I saw that everyone else has killed Copper Basin too. I’m staying on the Midway bandwagon this week against Tellico. Midway 34 – Tellico Plains 28
Ralton Emory: And now it gets real…district play.
The Waves have done what they needed to do so far by winning their non-district games and improving their overall standing and boosting their chances for the playoffs. However, that will all be for nothing if they do not win in district play.
Tellico is first up.
This is truly a pick’em game since it is being played in Bear country. Midway will need to play with confidence, come out of the gate strong, and stay on the attack the entire game. Let this one slip away, the chance of making the playoffs gets much tougher.
I think the Waves play with heart and they have proven their tenacity. It would be nice to score 53 for a 3rd consecutive week, but it won’t happen.
Midway 28, Tellico 27
Amber Johnson: Tellico Plains won’t be able to keep pace with the Midway offense. Midway will take their first district win on the road.
Kyle Canup:
Right now it’s hard to go against the Waves. Last week they showed their offense is still strong but was impressed with defense as the only offensive TD scored against them was a late game drive. This is first district game and I think the Waves let their momentum carry over and improve to a solid 4-0. Man I feel like Barry Narramore right now, and that’s not a good thing.
Barry Narramore:
Yes they will! But it will be tougher than last 3 weeks. Give me the Green 21-20!
Michael Rose:
The undefeated Waves roll up the hill to take on the Tellico Plains Bears this week. Looks like this could be a shootout, with Midways offense clicking on all cylinders and the Green team defense showing a little improvement. Somewhere, Glen “The Claw” Wheaton is probably itching to call in a 50 eagle weak side blitz in an effort to shore up the defensive play. Hopefully this week is a great showing for the Green D.
Tellico looks to have some offensive weapons as well with big wins over Copper Basin (good grief that annual playoff trip to Copper Basin was always a cold night) and another win over Andrews NC. Should be an exciting game, with plenty of scoring opportunities all around.
A word of caution to the Green team, the Bears have been known to play to and beyond the echo of the officials whistle, so be on the lookout, as Midway/Tellico matchups were once known to get a bit chippy. Somewhere there is a Greg Hearon Chicago Bear story that probably should be retold at this time, preferably by Midway coach Lewis Edwards. I will have to pass on telling the story, as I am still on sorsn.com editor word count restrictions.
Reportedly, sorsn.com’s CEO, lead writer, and lead photographer will be near live streaming updates from the game Friday, and will have a game summary on the website shortly after its completion. Refresh your browser often on Friday night/Saturday morning to check on the progress. You can also see updates at the sorsn.com facebook page, which is fast becoming communication central for all things sor.
The 7 time pick panel champion is one down to the panel right now, needs to make up some ground this week and is betting that the rest of the panel looks through Green colored lenses this week. That long windy bus ride to Tellico Plains would make a billy goat nauseous, so I am going anti Boo this week and picking the Bears . Please direct all hate mail to SQueener@sorsn.com.
