Pick Panel split; can Waves regain their confidence

Heart-breaker. The Waves suffered their first loss of the season, a 28-29 overtime loss to Tellico Plains. How? Why? Perhaps this will answer: “four total turnovers and 12 penalties for 110 total yards”. Yes, 12 penalties, some of the 15 yard kind, and 4 turnovers led to the Waves’ first loss.

The Waves remain on the road this week for another district game; heading up highway 27 to visit a very good Sunbright Tiger team. The Tigers are 4-1, including an impressive 41-21 win over Harriman which led the blue faithful screaming even louder for a change along the sidelines; cause as we all know, it’s the coaches who make the plays on the field. But these ain’t your daddy’s Sunbright Tigers; this squad has put up a lot of points this season and will greatly test the Midway defense Friday night.

Last week’s Greenwave loss allowed Mike Rose back into the leader board on the panel – as he used his crystal ball to accurately predict a green team loss at Tellico. We now have a 6-way tie across the panel. Will the Waves learn from their mistakes – stop letting their emotions take over and cause dumb penalties – or was last week’s loss proof that this team isn’t ready to win the big games?

Ralton Emory: That one hurt. Gotta admit, I may have to dispatch some of my NSA contacts to see how much Michael Rose paid out of pocket for those referees (see week 1 description for background). He can’t stand losing and will do what it takes to win. 🙂 (Side note: I’m kidding, Mike is a friend…sort of)

The sun won’t be so bright for the Waves this week.

Moon Dark 35, Midway 14

Steven Sears: What a heartbreaker last week at Tellico Plains. Midway should have definitely won that game, but when a team turns the ball over 4 times and has that many penalties, it’s pretty tough to do. Midway has to learn to play smart, discipline, and turnover free football or the road ahead could get ugly. With that said, this week brings a tough challenge against the Sunbright Tigers. I have personally always hated the ride to Sunbright because it felt like it took forever even though it’s not that far away. Midway better stay focused during this game if they want to win. I’m jumping off the Midway bandwagon this week and hoping that it puts a little fire in these boys. I truly hope they can bounce back this week and prove me wrong with this pick. Midway 28 Sunbright 32.

Barry Narramore:
Yes it was a heartbreaker but what more can a football fan ask for in a game then last week’s game at Tellico? Except maybe a win. A real football fan will watch a lot of games just to get to see one as exciting as last weeks. The lost to Tellico puts the Greenwaves behind the curve in the district race but there’s a lot of football left to play and Midway has the horses to get back in that race. One player I noticed from last week was big Seth Colyer at his defensive end position. Seth made a lot of plays last week and was around the ball all night. Keep up the good work Seth.
Sunbright will be a tough opponent this week, word has it they have some real players in the backfield. A big win over Harriman is cause for concern but expect the Green men to hunker down and get us back in the win column! Midway 28 Sunbright 20 Go Big a Green!!!

Kyle Canup:
What a game the Waves had last week, asides from the turnovers and penalties it was a solid football game on both parts. I feel the Waves should have not went into OT and had the game way before that but it happened and turned into a good exciting game with a disappointing ending. Sunbright seems to be playing very well and putting up some big numbers of their own and just came off a big win against Harriman. Hopefully Midway shakes the loss off and travels to Sunbright looking to play well and not make mistakes like last week. I know Coach Campbell was ready to get to practice and hit it hard. Tough week to pick because I think both teams are evenly matched and is a big game for both for their overall record. I’m gonna go ahead and take Midway this week in a close one.

Amber Johnson:
After last Friday’s heartbreaker at Tellico, how will the Greenwave respond? After a tough loss, the Waves need to forget about it and focus on the next opponent. This is a tough pick this week. Sunbright is much improved and will not be a push over like they have been in years past. This is gonna be an uphill battle, literally as the travel up the mountain into Sunbright. My first thought is Sunbright, but I’m picking Midway. I think they are gonna respond well. Pick up those boot straps and march it down the field. Go Green!

Mike Rose:
Week 5 and the season mid-point sees the Green Team coming off a heartbreaking loss at Tellico last week. It was a painful pick to make against the Green, but the seven time champ had to roll the dice and did indeed pick up a game and pull back to even with the rest of the panel. The Waves need to get off the mat from the narrow district loss last week and get the ship sailing on smooth waters again before the tough homestretch of the district schedule finishes off the season. At this point, some injuries and attrition usually start to settle in.

Sunbright looks to be Morgan County’s shining star this year, as the Tigers have rolled to a 4-1 record and were impressive last week against Jellyroll, I mean Jellico. Can Midway get back on the winning side or will costly penalties put the Waves over a barrel again this week?

Something tells me two weeks in a row on the road at Tellico and Sunbright might be a little too much to overcome this week. The Green shirted defense really needs to step up strong this week. I would like to take Midway and I hope I am wrong, but I think I am going anti-Boo again this week. Sunbright’s the pick and as always, hate mail to SQueener@sorsn.com.
