The Waves offense came out swinging last week, making several trips to the end zone before the half against the Sunbright Tigers. This week is homecoming week and the festivities have the Greenwave excited to welcome Jellico to the Emerald Forest.
Jellico is 4-1 on the season with wins over Lynn Camp Kentucky, North Greene and most recently a 21-0 win over Unaka. Jellico also has one win via forfeit of Tri-Cities Christian. The Blue Devils’ only loss has been to Oakdale 13-14.
Will the Midway defense be able to stop the ground & pound run game of Jellico? Can the Waves offense put up similar numbers to last week’s 49 point victory? Will the smell of the Midnight on Dogtown Road fragrance mixed with moldy shoulder pads eloding from the locker room force the spectators on the hill to seek a new spot? Who will be crowned Homecoming Queen of ‘23?
Let’s ask our panel on their predictions for this week’s homecoming matchup.
Tyson Canup (3-2): Jellico is not going to have what it takes to stop the waves this week. The life that returned last week will have a lasting effect on the minds of these young men and I look forward to them to be fired up for the first half scoring most of their points then and slowing after half time.
Final score 24-16 GO GREEN!!!
Chris Barry (2-3): Midway all the way
Travis Jackson (2-3): The big green put up (almost) Fiddy on the Tigers last week and Coach O’Toole celebrated with a long weekend at Blue Springs drinking diet cokes of course. Those games are always fun when you can do anything you want on the field. Plenty of playing time for the younger waves as well. But this week it will not be so easy as the Blue Devils from Jellico come down from the mountain and try to force the run game down Midway’s throats. It will be a tough battle but I’m not falling for the 4-1 record as the 4 teams they have defeated all have losing records. I’ll take the big green to put the brakes on the Blue Devils run game and once again have a nice offensive showing. Give me Midway not by Fiddy but a final of 28-15
Jason Lloyd (3-2): If my math is correct (and if it’s not, don’t tell Mr. Woody), Jellico has only allowed 29 total combined points in their 4 games this year. So points may be hard to come by in this contest and I’m afraid the boys in green will have trouble finding the end zone. Hopefully the Waves D can keep the game close, but I think Jellico wins a close one 21-14.
Ethan Crabtree (2-3): Last week, the Greenwaves showed up and showed out! I believe that the Waves have a hunger to win this one, especially because it is homecoming. Hopefully, the homecoming festivities don’t impact the players too much, and they come prepared to whoop some tail! I think the Waves will win a hard fought one 28-21.
Barry Boo Narramore (2-3): Jellico has not had much luck against the Green in last few years but they seem to be on a roll so far this year. I look for a closer game than normal but the Waves still get the W. Midway 36 Jellico 14
