SORSN: Coach, the season tip-off is finally here. Tell us what these last several months have been like for you as the new head coach for the boys basketball team leading up to the season opener.
Coach Treadway: It’s been a valuable learning process for the team over the last few months. The players have enthusiastically accepted and are now exhibiting the type of intensity and effort that I expect every time we step on the floor (practice or game). We have had very good practice sessions highlighted by the commitment shown by the players to work at becoming good decision makers at all times.
SORSN: Tell us about this year’s team (strengths, weaknesses, etc).
Coach Treadway: Our largest weakness at this point is time within the offensive and defensive systems we are installing. Over the next several weeks of practice and games we hope to turn that into a strength. I have changed several things about how we run our offense and defense from a continuity and individual role standpoint. It will take time for every part of it to mesh.
I feel that our strength could be our overall depth. We have several players competing for playing time and that competition has made everyone better.
SORSN: Since your time at Midway, you’ve held several positions including head coach for middle school softball, head coach of MHS football, assistant coach for MHS girls basketball. Oftentimes you’ve held them at the same time. If Midway adds a water polo team, who is more likely to coach – you or O’Toole?
Coach Treadway: That’s a great question! We would most likely decide to be co-head coaches of the water polo team!!!
In all seriousness though. I am humbled to have been asked to lead or be part of the many wonderful programs we have here at Midway. It’s busy and at times takes a toll mentally or physically. However, the opportunity to work with several coaches and players, along with getting to know numerous families of the players I have worked with, is quite a blessing.
SORSN: Introduce us to your coaching staff.
Coach Treadway: Assistant Coach- Luke Hall
And although they are not a part of the “official” Boys Basketball staff, I also consult with Coach Hayes, Coach Ruffner, and Judd Arndts on particular matters concerning our program.
SORSN: Did you know assistant coach Luke Hall orders his chicken wings boneless? Knowing this, does it change your opinion of the bearded baller?
Coach Treadway: I guess that’s ok??? I know a lot of other women or children who order them boneless also.
SORSN: Coach, we thank you for your time and good luck this season. GBG.
