SORSN 2024 Pick Panel: Game 1

We are just days away from the season opener of Midway football. Mother Nature has given us a preview of fall weather and football fans across the area are ready for some Friday night lights. SORSN just wrapped up its 20th year and we are excited at the return of some familiar names to the Pick Panel for year twenty-one.

Returning to the Panel this year is Ralton “Mule” Emory. Ralton was a key piece to the Midway O-line and D-line in the late 80s and early 90s. He brings a wealth of football knowledge and we are glad to have him return to the Panel after serving a 1 year suspension for his repeated spam attempts to get the SORSN owner up at 4 am to work-out.

Travis Action Jackson is a ‘95 graduate of MHS where he played football for the legendary coach Stan Branson. When not standing along the fence of the Emerald Forest on Friday nights, this oily-hand entrepreneur can be found eroding the banks of the Tennessee river with his 220 ft yacht.

Tyson Canup has been a staple on the Pick Panel for many years. The only thing deeper than Tyson’s love of Midway is his shoe closet and hair product cabinet. This dapper dan brings a solid track record of making winning picks.

Our rookie panel member this year is Luke Hall. This gender-reveal party expert is well versed in all things relating to the Braves, Volunteers and Midway. Having a Wave man tattoo is not required to be on the panel but it definitely helped Luke’s resume standout from the other 200 applicants.

Returning to SORSN for year 21 is Barry Boo Narramore. Peanut Butter and Jelly. Bonnie and Clyde. Tom and Jerry. Salt and Pepper. Barry and Midway. This #GWFL has emerald in his veins and no Midway Pick Panel is complete without Boo Narramore.

Welcome to the 2024 SORSN Pick Panel gentlemen. Football season is upon us and the Mighty Green hit the road for Sale Creek to open the season this Friday. There is a lot of buzz around this year’s program as they bring a lot of athleticism to the field. Brennan Reed returns as quarterback for his senior year and he is joined with a plethora of talent. Wyatt McClure, a 6’5” senior transfer from Alcoa, gives Reed a big target on the outside. He is joined by seniors Peyton Steele and Justice Long who both bring size and athleticism. Tate Mason and Dawson Buckner provide speed and strength in the backfield. Given the commitment to strength and conditioning by the big men up front during the off season, the Midway offense could be very electric this season.

Last year, Sale Creek (7-4) gave Midway (3-7) a loss to open the season in the Emerald Forest. Can Midway return the favor and spoil the season home opener for the Panthers?

Ralton Emory:

Well, well, well. I guess the powers that be at SORSN decided to finally let the pick’em King; the Rick Flair (wooo); the legend himself back off suspension!

It’s so good to be back!

Interesting first road test for the historically slow starting Wave team. Even some of the best in history had some early season misses.

This little kitty cat team surprised the Green Machine in the Emerald Forest last season. I believe the Waves return the favor this year.

Midway 18, Panthers 12

Travis Jackson:

As the season of cooler evenings and the excitement of football returns, the Greenwave is set to face Sale Creek in their opening game. Last year, Sale Creek had a strong season, finishing 7-4 before falling to Clay County in the first round of the TSSAA playoffs. Although last year’s matchup didn’t go as our panel expected, this year, Midway seems better prepared to take on a younger Sale Creek team.

Despite struggles this off season – like Brennan and Wyatt having trouble staying on a tube behind a boat on Watts Bar—the Greenwave’s prospects on the field look promising. Fortunately, tubing skills have no bearing on football performance. Reed is poised for a standout senior season, and with Wyatt and other returning playmakers, Midway appears to be strong at the skill positions.

My prediction? Midway will come away with a hard-fought victory on Friday night, kicking off the season with a 1-0 record. Final score: Midway 23, Sale Creek 16.

Tyson Canup:

Big green is flush with weapons this year. It could be the season we breakthrough. Midway dominates.

Midway 21, Panthers 8

Luke Hall:

The mighty Greenwave have a ton of athletes this year. I heard head coach Justin O’Toole finally let newly appointed offensive coordinator Bill Satterfield hit the ‘crutin trail this past spring and brought some big names with NIL sponsors from Little Debbie and also kept some kids that we had the past couple years. I think with the revamped offense and coach O’Tooles stellar defensive game plan we will drown the wildcats out by a score of 34-8.

Barry Narramore:

Midway’s got the personnel in the right spots this year. I’m looking forward to a big year from Senior QB Reed and Mason. Supposedly Sales Creek has a young line that our experience will take advantage of. Give me the Green in a good opening game win 28-12.
