SORSN Pick Panel: Game 3 vs. Rockwood

The Midway Greenwave are coming off another impressive and lopsided win. Midway has scored 81 points in just two games, but this week, it may not be as easy to get into the end zone. Midway welcomes the Tigers of Rockwood to the Emerald Forest on Friday night. Though the Tigers are still looking for their first win of the 2024 season, their losses have come against tough competition in Oneida and Monterey.

Returning to the Waves’ lineup this week is senior Brennan Reed after serving a one-game suspension. The biggest question is whether Reed will return to QB1 or move to receiver, where he hauled in 10 touchdown passes as a freshman. Having a roster full of talented players and versatile options is a great advantage for any coach.

Penalties have been the only thing slowing the Midway offense thus far. The Waves will need to clean those up if they hope to defeat the Tigers, who are hungry for a win. The last time Midway started a season 3-0 was in 2018. That year, the team went on to a 7-3 record before losing in the first round of the playoffs to Cloudland.

The Panel has unanimously picked Midway in each of the first two games. Is this the week the Panel begins to separate?

Ralton Emory: This week we get an indication of how the season will play out for the Waves. Rockwood has traditionally been a stumbling block even for the best of Midway teams. And while my heart says Midway, and I think they’ll play tough, my head says Tigers (hope I’m proven wrong).

I believe “Hold that Tiger” will be played too many times Friday.

Tigers 21, Waves 20

Tyson Canup: This week the Rockwood Tigers get a dose of the Midway Green Waves and it promises to be an exciting one. First of all, it’s a county rivalry, which means these teams are going to be bringing their A-game. But there’s an interesting dynamic at play here – the Tigers have lost two games in a row, and the Green Waves have won two. Could this be a turning point for both teams? Or is it just going to be another lopsided victory for the Green Waves? Only time will tell.

Personally, I’m putting my marbles on the Green Waves. I mean, they’ve got all that momentum behind them, and the Tigers just can’t seem to catch a break.

Greenwaves roll 23-21

Travis Jackson: Midway has been on an offensive tear this season, starting strong with a 2-0 record. However, this week brings a tougher challenge as county rival Rockwood visits the Emerald Forest. Historically, this matchup has been challenging for the Greenwave, and I expect that trend to continue. Rockwood, currently struggling with an 0-2 record, is eager to secure their first win. Coach O’Toole has kept the starting quarterback decision under wraps, but it’s anticipated that Wyatt will remain at QB, with Reed shifting to receiver. With Reed’s athleticism, size, and speed, the Tigers’ defense will be hard-pressed to contain the Greenwave. I predict Midway will pull away in the second half, with a final score of Midway 35, Rockwood 17.

Luke Hall: The 2-0 Greenwave started week 2 with another fantastic performance defensively only giving up 1 yard in the first half. Offensively they had quite a few penalties but were able to overcome their mistakes with huge offensive plays, but this week there is more at stake. We start our region schedule with one of our bigger rivals the Rockwood Tigers. I had a small run in with Coach O’Toole yesterday and before I could ask him anything about the game he tossed me a Swiss Roll Little Debbie and said Swiss Rolls have been broken into this week that’s all you need to know. I walked out of his office with no more questions needed more confident than I’ve ever been in my head coach and team going into this Friday night. I’m taking the Greenwave 27-15 on Friday night.

Barry Narramore: For many years the Green Waves opened their season playing the Rockwood Tigers. The coming season was gauged on how bad the Tigers beat the Green and how many players we lost to injury. But If the gods smiled and Midway beat the Tigers the Waves were in for a big year. Times have changed over the years. Rockwood is not the juggernaut of past and this year the Green will extend this win streak to 3-0. fist bump to placekicker John Hladis he’s a good extra weapon for the Waves
