Lady Waves get win; Waves need bodies

With both teams coming off losses at Sunbright, the Waves and Lady Waves were looking to pick up a needed win at home against Greenback. However, plagued by injuries, the Waves did not have enough man-power to beat the ‘kees; meanwhile, the Lady Waves delivered first year head coach Amy C. Woody her 1st win of the season in a nail-biting 45-44 win.

Girls Game
The Lady Waves led much of the first half behind the scoring of Kat Beard, Haley Parks, and Lacey Davidson. The Lady Waves would take a 26-20 lead into the break.

Kat, with her run-and-gun style of offense, extended lead to 10 to start the final stanza. That’s when it got interesting.

Depth is the biggest issue facing the Lady Waves team and that became evident as the Lady Waves leaders joined the coaches on the sidelines with foul trouble.

Greenback would take advantage, knocking down a couple 3-pointers and jumpers, to tie the game. However, the Lady Wave answered the challenge. Angel Edgemon came up with a big steal from a driving Hammontree in the closing moments. Amanda Soard also came up with a game saving steal and Michele Waldon was money from behind the arc down the stretch.

Edgemon, Soard, and Waldon saved the day with the 45-44 victory.

Scorers for Midway: Beard 13, Davidson 12, Walden 8, Parks 7, Soard 3, Edgemon 2

Boys Game
We mentioned the youthfulness of the Waves at the start of the season as a potential problem; however, the young whippersnappers have played well. But with Quinton Pressley, Will Poe, and now Mark Childers out of the lineup with injuries, depth in addition to inexperience is a rising concern for Coach Ruffner.

Greenback simply gave the young Waves all they could handle last Friday night. Excellent play from the Cherokee guards forced the Waves to go away from their full court press. The Midway guards were outsized and unable to handle the half court traps forced by the ‘kees.

The Waves entered the 2nd half only down 7 but struggled to even get a shot off in the 3rd period, allowing Greenback to pull away to a 59-38 win.

Scorers for Midway: Roberson 15, Hall 9, Wiley 5, Manning 4, Hester 3, Butler 1, Henderson 1.
