Midway drops 2 to Harriman

The Midway Green Waves hosted the Blue Devils of Harriman on Friday night. For the ladies, a win and the Lady Waves would be in the top spot in the District; a loss would send the Lady Waves in to a 2nd place tie with the Rockwood Lady Tigers. For the men, a win would give the Green Waves back-to-back victories and aid the Waves in securing the #3 spot in the District, behind Rockwood & Grace Christian. Unfortunately for Wave fans, Harriman would take both games and send the Midway Maniacs home with a bad taste.

The Lady Devils controlled the game all 4 quarters on their way to a 56-34 win. The Lady Waves were unable to match up to the size of Harriman’s backcourt and could not get any offense going.

In the men’s game, the Blue Devils held a slight, 15-10, edge at the end of the 1st period but the current picked up in the 2nd period for the Waves and they took a 21-20 lead into half time.

However, the Blue Devils managed to rally in the 3rd period and pull ahead, 37-31, entering the final stanza. Harriman’s #5 came off the bench and provided instant offense for the Blue Devils; knocking down several big shots including a pair of three-pointers. Midway would attempt one more run but Harriman withstood the surge and would go on to a 57-43 victory.

The freshman, Matt Jarvis, continues to play well for the Waves. He’s taking care of the ball and he’s capable of knocking down big shots. He hit one big three in the3rd period for the Waves as well as managed to drive the lane for a couple of floaters. Senior Steve Blasko played the best offensive game that this editor has seen. Blasko’s best quality is that he knows what to do with the ball. The big man has several good basketball moves and knows to take the ball to the rim. He may not always finish with 2-points (perhaps due to the 4-inch vertical leap that he poses) but Blasko has shown that he has the best offensive moves on the team. If he continues to play like this, I expect a huge game in Blasko’s future.

Midway will have a pair of big District games this week both of which are at home. The Waves will host Grace Christian on Tuesday and Greenback on Friday.
