15-0, 17-2, 9-0. These are the kind of scores that Midway Green Wave baseball fans are used to seeing when their team takes the field against the Tigers of Rockwood. These scores have not often been in favor of Midway. On Tuesday night, it was a different story. A large crowd came out to see the boys get a much deserved 4-3 win over the visiting Tigers.
The Waves fell behind early, when they gave up three runs in the first inning. The Green got one back in the bottom of the first, and they struggled through the next five innings to tie the game at 3-3. Then, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Wakon Roberson singled and stole second. After that, sophomore pitcher Josh Manning came to the plate and drove the ball to right field, scoring Roberson and sealing the victory for Midway. Aside from hitting the game-winning RBI, Manning also went the distance on the mound and was the winning pitcher.
This was a big win for Midway, and we hope to see more performances like this as the season progresses. Congratulations Green Waves.
