The Midway Lady Green Waves improved to 2-1 on the season with a big 11-1 win over Class AAA South Doyle Wednesday at Midway.

The game was the third consecutive game for the Lady Waves against much larger schools to begin the season. They beat McMinn Central Monday and lost to Webb Tuesday. After a weekend tournament at Athens, Midway returns home Tuesday to host Harriman in the first District 3-A game of the season.

The Lady Waves made short work of the Lady Cherokees, winning in six innings. Lacey Davidson drove in the final two runs with a long double in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Lady Waves jumped out to a 1-0 lead after one inning.

Davidson drew a one out walk and scored on a double by Hannah Colyer. Midway tacked on three runs in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.

Midway’s only senior, Kayla Mundy, walked to start the inning then Michelle Walden singled. After an out, Alex Coffman singled to drive in Mundy and Davidson continued to carry a big bat when she doubled to drive in Walden and Coffman. After a scoreless third, the Lady Waves all but put the game away with five runs in the fourth.

With one out, Davidson and Colyer hit back-to-back then Katie Alexander walked to load the bases.

Krystal Rue hit into a force out of Davidson at home, but a throwing error allowed Colyer to score. Kelsey Hayes then singled to drive in Alexander and Mundy singled to push in Rue. Walden walked then Haley Parks ripped a hit past the shortstop that scored Hayes and Mundy.

In the fifth, Davidson and Colyer drew walks to start the inning, but were left stranded to send the game to one more inning.

Midway got the early ending with two runs in the sixth.

Mundy doubled to begin the inning. After an out, Parks singled and Coffman walked to load the bases. Davidson then smacked a long double to the fence to score Mundy and Parks with the game-ending runs.

Colyer had another good performance from the pitching circle. She allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out six.

South Doyle scored their only run in the third inning.
