Dominance, thy name is Midway Lady Waves softball. At least that was how it appeared in Wartburg Monday afternoon as the Girls from South of the River crushed the Wartburg Central Lady Bulldogs by an impressive 15-2 tally.
The game started off very well for the Lady Waves as each of the first four batters scored pivotal base hits. Alex Coffman began the “SOR Traveling Batting Clinic” with a triple. Lacey Davidson also drilled an RBI single in the next at-bat. The Lady Waves didn’t stop there, however, as “Hammerin'” Hannah Colyer drilled an RBI double to give Midway an early 2-0 lead. But all that paled when Kati Alexander, from here on known as “Alexander The Great”, blasted a ball so far and so high in flight that it should have had a stewardess and an in-flight movie for a 2-run homer to give the Lady Waves an early 4-0 lead. Wartburg managed to tack on a couple runs to cut the game to 4-2 at the end of the opening inning.
The next inning, the Girls from the South had runs coming in faster than the speed of light, as they sent in seven runs in the top of the second. Those scoring runs or driving them in included Taylor Narramore with an RBI single, Ainsley Presswood, pinch-running for Narramore came home after a wild-pitch and Alex Coffman came in the same way. “Hammerin'” Hannah had an RBI along with Alexander “The Great”, and Krystal Rue delivered a 2-run double to give Midway an 11-2 lead. Wartburg would threaten to score but excellent defense held them at bay to take an 11-2 lead.
There was a brief intermission from the hitting expo Midway was putting on in the third as neither they nor Wartburg got on the board.
In the final inning, Presswood and Coffman again came home on wild pitches and Narramore had a 2-run double to close out the game with the final score 15-2.
The Midway offense was alive and well, pelting the poor Lady Bulldogs for 15 hits. Taylor Narramore had a break-out game with a 3 for 3 outing with a double and three RBI’s plus the victory on the mound, pitching three innings with five strikeouts, six walks, three hits, and two runs. Colyer went 3 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Alexander had a 3 for 4 day with a double, a home run, and three RBI’s. Also getting multiple hits were Alex Coffman with a 2 for 3 day with a double, a triple, and an RBI and a walk. Davidson went 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI, and a walk. For anyone who hasn’t had the chance to see this team play, come out and watch these girls play ball and support your SOR sports!
