The Lady Waves have been busy since we last checked in. Rockwood visited on Thursday night. But left with similar results as the first time as the Green team sent the Tigers packing with a 10-0 lost to add to the 11-0 beating the Waves handed them last Tuesday. The Lady Tigers started with a “You can’t do that again” attitude as they started out hitting the ball hard but the Lady Waves buckled down and got out of the inning without any damage done. On their first at bat the ladies from South the River picked up where they had left off at Rockwood on Tuesday tacking on 3 runs before the 1st inning was over. The girls kept the pressure on adding runs through out the game as pitcher, Hannah Colyer, would get her second shutout in 2 games over the normally tough Rockwood Tigers.
On Monday the Lady Waves traveled to Oakdale to take on the Oakdale Eagles. With the temperature in the 20’s, the weather did not cool the Midway bats as the Waves rolled to a 23-1 victory. Colyer pitched a couple of innings, and turned the pitching duties over to Sophomore Michelle Walden who moped up the Eagle batters and put an end to the run limit shortened game. Colyer would bust the ball all night with a couple of triples and Walden’s bat has come alive of late with 3 doubles against the Eagles. The Midway fans got a scare in the game when shortstop Alex Coffman was hit hard while trying to slide in head first at home. Thankfully Alex was only shook-up on the play and not seriously hurt. Junior outfielder, Erica McMurray, also had a great hit to the fence for a stand up double.
On Tuesday the Waves put their unbeaten District record on the line traveling to District foe Greenback. The Lady Waves gave Colyer a break and starting pitcher Taylor Narramore abused the Greenback hitters with a beautiful change-up for two innings. Centerfielder Krystal Rue proved that the Waves didn’t have just 3 pitchers but 4. Krystal pitched the last 3 inning to help the Lady Waves improve to 5-0 in the district and beat Greenback 27-1. The High light of the night was when power hitter Katie Alexander, once again, went deep for her 3rd out of the park home run on the year.
The Lady Waves will travel to Kingston on Weds for a 5:30 meeting with a very tough Lady Jackets team. The SOR girls seem to be hitting their stride just in time for the match-up with the Kingston girls. As a team, the Lady Waves are batting an impressive .488. In 295 at bats the girls have been struck out only 35 times while picking up 36 doubles, 8 triples, and 5 home runs.
