MMS Wins District Championship

The Midway Middle School won their first ever District Championship. The Waves defeated Coalfield 14-8 in OT.

Sam Wright scored with 2:18 left in the game to pull the Waves within 2. Larry Risner ran to the left behind Justin Conley, Sam Wright, and Colt Johnson to get in for the 2-point conversion and tie the game. With only seven seconds left, Coalfield had the ball on the Midway 25 yd line. The Coalfield Quarterback took a shot to the end zone but it was broken up by Joe Parton and Sam Wright.

Midway won the toss and went to defense first to start overtime play. Two plays later, Coalfield was down to the 2 yard line. A Delay of Game penalty was called forcing the Jackets back to the 9. On 4th down, Coalfield threw to the end zone and it was picked off by Larry Risner. On the first play of Midways possession, Sam Wright took the pitch to the left. He juked and jived into the end zone for the win, the #1 spot in their district, and their first ever District Championship.
