Midway Green Waves Football Camp

The 2007 Midway Green Waves Football Camp wrapped up their final day of camp last Friday. The 4-day camp had a total of 109 kids, ranging from little league crickets to junior high athletes, and was conducted by combined efforts of the high school coaching staff, high school players, and youth league coaches.

The camp focused on strength training, conditioning, and the overall fundamentals of the game. In addition to kids from SOR, there were also kids from Loudon and McMinn counties.

We asked Midway High School’s football coach Justin O’Toole about the camp. “I think that the kids really learned a lot. We had more than we’ve ever had before and that means good news for SOR football the next few years. As always, the kids really enjoyed the tackling drills. We can always put that in our back pocket to bring out in camp..after all, who doesn’t like tackling.”

When asked what his most memorable moment of the camp was, Coach O’Toole suggested, “having Johnny Burnam fertilizing the field to get it ready for the camp. You had to look to see it but the spots that Johnny did were a lot greener than the rest of the field. A normal bag will last 6 times up and down the field..Johnny used a whole bag just down and back.”

Along with the football camp, a cheerleading camp was also held. The high school cheerleaders volunteered their time and worked closely with 24 girls from the Midway youth league.
