Beat down, openin’ up a can, layeth the smacketh downeth. There are a dozen different ways to describe Midway’s performance over Sequatchie County last Friday night and all of them are accurate. For a 2nd straight week, the Midway Green Waves blasted the opposition as they beat Sequatchie County, 48-3, to improve to 4-1 on the season.
Before I could even get my camera set up and in position, Ray Ray capped off Midway’s first possession of the game with a 15 yard touch down run. And before I could walk to the end of the field to set up for Midway’s next offensive possession, Ray Ray went racing past me, going 67 yards for his 2nd touch down in as many touches.
After the 2-point conversion by Stansbury, the Waves were up 14-0.
Midway would get the ball back after forcing Sequatchie County to punt. And on the first play..William Poe, aka The Raven, would scorch the entire Indian defense and go 60 yards for another Green Wave touch down.
Folks, we haven’t even reached the 2nd quarter yet.
After forcing Sequatchie County to a 3 and out to start the 2nd quarter, Stansbury connected with Poe on a fly route for a 45 yard pass play. Stansbury would later score, putting the Waves up 28-0, with nearly three quarters still to play.
The Waves did find themselves in a 4th and long situation deep inside the Indian territory; however, Stansbury went to the air and Mark Childers made the grab near the 10 yard line and wrestled his way inside the 5 yard line. The Waves would again score but another bobbled snap on the PAT would leave the score 34-0.
The Sequatchie County Indians would finally get the offense going and would drive the length of the field before being stopped on 3rd down inside the red zone. On 4th down and with less than 10 seconds on the clock, the Indians opted to kick a field goal; I assume to get some points on the board and to give themselves a little bit of a bright spot going into the half. The field goal was good and the score was now 34-3.
But that bright spot faded fast…with just 5 seconds left before half, the made the poor decision to kick the ball deep. Sir William Poe would field the kick off and high step 75 yards, all the way to the dance floor.
Half time score: 41-3
The Indians would get the ball to start the 2nd half but would fumble near mid-field. Poe would collect the fumble and return it into Indian territory. Ray Ray would later score his 3rd of the night.
With the new slaughter rule, the clock doesn’t stop so the 2nd half went quick, ending in a 48-3 tidal Wave.
The Midway defense was dominating yet again and the Midway offense was full of highlights. To quote a common saying..Defense wins games, Offense sells tickets. This is a perfect description of this year’s Green Wave team. This is a fun team to watch and it should be standing room only every Friday night in the Emerald Forest.
With a big district game this Friday at the Emerald Forest: the Fence Walkers, the families in the stands, and the alumni along the hill need to bring the noise.
