Green Wave junior RB Ray Robinson leads the 2007 squad as he has been named the Roane County Player of the Year. Robinson has a truly phenomenal season as he rushed for 1,800 yards and 22 TDs on 207 carries.
Robinson also showed the ability to throw the ball in the final game of the season as after an injury to senior QB Eric Stansbury, Robinson did his impression of Florida’s Tim Tebow as he passed for 57 yards and a touchdown in Midway’s quarterfinal loss at Hampton.
Although an injury prevented Stansbury from playing quarterback the last two games of the season, Stansbury still had good enough numbers to be named the 2007 Roane County Offensive Player of the Year.
Stansbury rushed for 698 yards and 20 TDs on 116 carries while passing for 562 yards and another three TDs. Stansbury also caught a touchdown pass in 2007 plus he also scored touchdowns on defense and special teams.
Midway’s third superlative is Roane County Coach of the Year Craig Moser.
Moser’s squad rolled to an 11-2 record this season and many of their games were blowouts as the Green Waves scored a total of 480 points in 13 games. Midway averaged 39.8 points per game in the regular season and the Waves also scored more than 40 points on seven occasions.
Midway’s offensive numbers could have been even more impressive except for the fact that the Green Wave starters didn’t play into the fourth quarter in half their games this season.
