The Coalfield Yellow Jackets traveled down Highway 27, across “the bridge”, into SOR country with the thoughts of an upset victory….simply stated, it didn’t happen. The Waves scored early & often, forced the Yellow Jacket offense to lay a big goose egg, and headed to the homecoming dance smellin’ like teen spirit with a 37-0 victory.
Coalfield would receive the opening kickoff…uh wait..they forgot to receive it…instead, the ball bounced off the chest of the Yellow Jacket deep man and ended up in the hands of the Green Waves. Less than a minute into the game, the Waves were on top 7-0 thanks to a 25 yard TD run by Quinton Pressley, and they never looked back.
Ray Robinson would score on Midway’s next possession and the Waves were up 14-0 before most of the fans could get settled into their seats. R2 would rush for 2 TD’s on the night.
The highlights continued as quarterback Pressley connected with Wakon “Big Slim” Roberson on a 30 yard touch down pass. Quinton and Roberson would connect several times on the night. Will Poe would continue his streak of games with a TD as hit the nitro button, racing for a 77 yard touch down leaving the Coalfield defense choking on his exhaust.
Mark Childers would add a 32 yard field goal to at the start of the 4th quarter to cap off the scoring, 37-0. Childers hit 4 of 5 PATs on the night in addition to the 32 yard field goal. Thankfully, it’s only Childers’ arm that is broke and not his leg.
With the Waves up 37-0, the slaughter rule kicked in and the clock ran non-stop for the entire 4th quarter…allowing for more time to for the players to dash on a little more
