Week 2 Interview with Moser and Shillings

Coach Craig Moser
SORSN: What are some of the good things you saw in the Rockwood game that you’d like to see the team carry forward?

Craig: I thought we played with great effort and intensity for 4 quarters. We also had lots of players make big plays. We had pride and heart and played the game to win.

SORSN: What are some of the bad that you want to go away?

Craig: Silly penalties, getting wore down, giving up 4th and longs, overall blocking, dropping INT’s, poor communication, more depth, etc. etc. etc. etc. We’ve got a long way to go.

SORSN: How true is the saying that a football team takes its biggest stride between the first and the 2nd games?

Craig: I don’t know. Our goal is to be better today than we were yesterday.

SORSN: What can you tell us about Oakdale?

Craig: They have their numbers up. On Offense they run the Wing T. They are big up front with starters going 245, 230, 230 and 220 (according to their roster). Their QB throws the ball well and they have 2 fast WR’s, who go get the ball. Their FB is 185 and a hard runner. On D they run a 3-5-3. A blitzing style of Defense. They are aggressive and swarm to the ball.

Coach Chris Shillings
SORSN: Being a former Blue Devil, how great was it to be on the side lines watching as the clock ticked away showing MHS over Rockwood?

Chris: Not as good as seeing the clock tick away showing the Big Green over Harriman or Coalfield.

SORSN: It has been said that you were asked to take a class on media relations.
What, if anything, did that class teach you?

Chris: The media relations class taught me how we were under utilizing our media sources and how someone like Coach O’Toole shouldn’t talk to the media and Coach Gordon spells media – M.I.D.D.A. ah H. I stopped going to that class and took a pie making class with Coach Moser.

SORSN: It’s been reported that you’ve sought the advise of the Yard Budda – Mike “Mr. Wilson” Hayes – regarding your oversized John Deere mower. What kind of advise did the Great One give you? Mow Left, Cut High? Disengage before engaging?

Chris: The Great Yard BUDDA say “man who mows in short shorts expose all to neighborhood”. Yard Buddha also say “man who mows often, mows neighbors yard sooner”

SORSN: The defense never really stopped Rockwood. Rockwood had 20 first downs compared to Midway’s 5. What changes is the defense making in week 2?

Chris: We are going to blitz more and play a meaner, tougher Midway Blackshirt Defense, like years past. The younger boys don’t know that style yet. We will play better when Coach Moser gives his “CREEK” pre-game speech.
